When Windows power-saving features interfere

Microsoft Windows power-saving features can prevent Net2Go users from connecting to computers that contain shared folders.

To turn off Windows power-saving features

  1. Click this button:

     
  1. If you are setting up a laptop computer and always want it to remain on, on the Power Schemes tab, select Always On from the Power Schemes list.

    Go to the final step in this procedure.
 
  1. In the Hard disks list, select Never.
 
  1. In the System standby list, select Never.
 
  1. Click the Hibernate tab.
     

If the Hibernate tab does not appear, your computer does not support hibernation. Click OK to close the Power Options Properties dialog box.

 
  1. With Windows XP, clear the Enable hibernation check box.

    With Windows Me, Windows 98 SE, and Windows 2000, clear the Enable hibernation support check box.
 
  1. Click OK.

To open Power Management with Windows XP and Windows 2000, click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Management.

To open Power Management with Windows 98 SE and Windows Me, click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Schemes.
